MEDIATION – A Christian way to help heal
relationships
The Church is a
family, and from time to time families fall into conflict.
Mediation is a way of
helping parties in dispute to resolve their differences with the help of a
neutral third party mediator, who is confidential, impartial and
non-judgmental. The mediator will not impose an agreement on those
involved but will help the parties themselves to decide on a solution that
is mutually acceptable.
The mediator will help
the parties to clarify their needs and interests as a whole person,
looking positively at what the individual can do to help heal the
situation. Usually this will involve a visit by the mediator to each party
individually, with only information that is authorised being passed on to
the other person. Often a face-to-face meeting is then arranged if the
parties want this, where ground rules of uninterrupted time, listening and
respect are expected.
Christ-centred
mediation can help in disputes as it emphasizes communication, respect and
forgiveness.
If you have a problem
in your Church that you think would benefit from mediation, or simply want
to talk through the process, please
ring the Diocesan Office on 01634 830333
and ask for Mediation. You do not have to give your name and your enquiry
will be treated with the utmost confidence.
